This movie is made by the same director Francis Ford Coppola and is based on the book of the same author Mario Puzo. We can hear the same beautiful music by Nino Rot. So.. this movie can’t be worse than the first part. It’s the sequel of Corleone’s family history, the revelation of Mafia’s world. And there is no matter to compare it with the first part. “The Godfather” is a real masterpiece. “The Godfather: part II” is the continuation of the masterpiece and is also the greatest chef-d'oeuvre.
Here we can see two parallel plot lines: the first is the real one, the second is peculiar retrospective review showing us the past of Vito Corleone’s life. That time he was young and it’s a great possibility for reviewers to see Don Corleone in his childhood, observe his temper’s formation. .
Don is really great! Robert DeNiro coped with the character and could put up a good show after breathtaking success of Marlon Brando. He could show the very godfather but many years ago: the same hoarse voice, the same self-respect, the same strength and invariable outer calmness, the same love to the family to live in his heart above all. All the episode of the movie is really interesting and exiting.
In the first part of the movie Michael Corleone (Vito’s
sun) struggles for family honor. He looks like his father: always calm and
coolness, confident and clever. You never know what to expect from him. But his
smile is worth one’s weight in gold. His eyes smile more often than his lips.
Vito became the best teacher for his son and later Michael will say: “There are
many things my father taught me here in this room. He taught me: keep your
friends close, but your enemies closer.” This quote became the most popular
phrase in USA
in 20 century!
